       You’re POV

       Slowly opening my sleep crusted eyes, I observe my surroundings. Sighing, I realized I was once again in the orange clad warrior’s room. Another night with him, and I still am making the same empty promise to myself to stay away. But for some reason this is my, and truthfully his, only way to show reassurance anymore. As I shift to look at my temporary lover, he wakens. He looks at me with the same eyes he does every morning I awaken next to him. The same guilty expression. Looking down to avoid eye contact, I bite my lip. He raises his only arm to cup my cheek. I look up at him, and he smiles. I could tell it was his way of telling me everything would be alright. No matter how difficult things got. Even after Donnie went missing some 30 years ago, Splinter and Casey passed, and Shredder conquered the entire country. I may think to much sometimes about these things, but we all do. My eyes filled with tears, and he pulled me to him. I rested my head on him telling myself to leave and end this strictly only-for-reassurance love. I couldn’t though, the comfort was needed.
        “We may have lost so far, but it’s not the end, it’s never the end.” His voice rumbled as he spoke the words I knew I needed to hear. I smiled into his plastron. I smiled because I hadn’t heard his voice in a very long time. I haven’t heard him okay with life for a very long time. I haven’t heard Mikey for a very long time. Slowly he let me free, and went out to the other room where April was drinking rationed coffee and reading over progress reports from Angel and her accomplice Mason. Walking over to the window that was boarded up, I wrapped my arms together. Mikey staggered out after my exit, and April gained a look of understanding on her face. She smiled towards me, but I could tell it was forced. All signs of happiness are forced now. I glance at Michelangelo who was pouring two mugs of coffee. April announced she was going to go get more coffee from the ration unit in the basement. As she left, Mikey rested on his right arm against the counter containing the two mugs of coffee letting a tear fall. Making my way over to him, I run my hand across the remanence of his left arm. It was covered in scars from the few years back when Shredder had mercilessly pulled it off in front of all of us. I pull back recalling the tragic memory, all the tears from him, all the screaming, all the blood, all the sense of having no problems in our lives just fading away before our eyes. I turn his face to me seeing the few drops run down his face and wipe them away. I rest my forehead on his, and lightly kiss him. He kisses back, but more out of comfort. Out of need for another’s contact. I waited for him to pull back, and as he did, April came back upstairs to the main room. She stood behind me putting the half full coffee can in the other recently used can. I put a hand on Mikey’s shoulder as he gave me the cup he had poured for me. Moving my thumb slightly across his neck, I whispered to him.
         “It’s not over. Nothing is over. Nothing will ever be over.” I saw a very small split second smile hit the corner of his mouth. Maybe the light in the dark isn’t burnt out completely after all, because nothing’s over. This is just the beginning.
